RUNNING ORDER OF A TYPICAL morning session:
10
a.m. – 11.15 a.m.
Play:
There is a
good selection of toys rotated weekly, to cover different areas of learning (e.g.
creative, educational, physical activity, co-ordination, and
imaginative/role-play). The toys shown in the photo are just a small selection - we also have cars and
roadways; a farm and animals; dolls house; play tents and tunnels; small bool pool; puzzles; wooden
building block sets etc etc . . . There are also quieter areas for
looking at books and for babies to play.
Art/Craft: An art or
craft activity based on the theme of the week is available for you to do with your toddler and which
aims to develop different skills such as
cutting and sticking; printing; threading; painting; modelling etc.
Lending Library: (10.45 - 11.15) We hope
you will make use of our small lending library of children’s books; enjoy
choosing a book with your toddler to take home and share together. Up to 3 books per child may be borrowed (free of charge).
We have also recently established
an adults' lending library of books relevant to parenting, childcare and
things to do with your toddlers. Books may be borrowed from here for a refundable deposit of £1.
Refreshments: Tea/coffee and biscuits for adults, and
squash/water plus a snack for toddlers are available throughout this first part
of the morning. We ask for your help in ensuring the safety of the children by
putting all hot drinks up on the tables/windowsills around the edge of the room.
11.15 a.m.
Tidy-up Time: All hands on deck to tidy the toys away in
readiness for story and singing time!
11.20
am – 11.30 a.m.
Story and Singing Time: We do ask
that you sit with your toddler during this time when we all come together for
the story and/or singing. We hope you will view this as an ideal opportunity to
share quality ‘together’ time through the story and action songs.
EXTRA:
1. Once
a month – generally the 3rd Friday of each month (check with Amelia
or the programme on the website for confirmation of this) - the art/craft
activities plus the story and songs on this day will be based on a Christian theme such as
Harvest, Christmas, Noah's Ark and other stories from the Bible.
2. We
are also invited by the playgroup (Horfield Methodist Playgroup which meets in the hall downstairs) to join ‘Playgroup Praise’ which takes place
twice a year:
(i) in December to celebrate
Christmas, and (ii) in July to think about growing up and ‘moving on’.
3. If you are thinking ahead to when your toddler will go to a playgroup and are interested in going downstairs to visit the Horfield Methodist Playgroup, you are welcome to do so at any time. Speak to one of us first and we'll advise you as to the best time to fit in with their morning's programme.
